If the museum won’t come to artist then artist must go to the museum…

Young Polish art student Andrzej Sobiepan was fed up with waiting for decades to get his art to where he desired, in this case to the Polish National Museum. So he got inspired by British street artsit Banksy and as Bansky did recently in the prestigious New York museums also Andrzej Sobiepan placed his artwork next to luckier fellow artists on the walls of the major Polish gallery. Below you can see the documentation video he made. As we can see museum walls are still tempting!

Should museums have walls? This is the core question of the Extra Muros blog. As we can see according to many examples this blog has already presented, museums are still closely connected to and defined by their tangible buildings. Just some of them step from time to time outside this “natural habitat”. So if majority of activities of museums is located within their walls, it is essential to ask how these walls should look like.

No guards here and always open

Will traditional museums as we know then now, i.e. buildings in which we can admire beautiful things, get inspired or learn something new, once cease to exist? Will they once be replaced by virtual spaces presenting virtual artworks? Maybe you can object against this assumption, saying that museums are also about interaction with the other visitors, museum staff, the building, surroundings… Nonetheless, the Adobe Museums of Digital Art proves that even a purely virtual museum can offer aforementioned aspects of museum visit.
